Sanchar emanated from Pratham Mumbai Education Initiative(www.pratham.org) ,an organization working in the field of education for primary, pre-primary and higher secondary school children for the past 15 years. As a part of Pratham program, Sanchar was initiated in 1998 to run the Computer Aided Learning (CAL) program for the school children from 54 Municipal Corporation schools in Mumbai. Sanchar learnt to walk when the program reached its final stages in 2001.Today Sanchar manages 400+ schools in over 08 states of India covering about 173 thousand school children.
Each CAL center played a vital role in emphasizing and demonstrating to local stake holder the essential role of Information Technology in education today. Research conducted MIT; USA concluded that Math scores of children who participated in the CAL program improved by a 0.47 deviation.
Our experience also shows that the Centers are instrumental in attracting children to school, creating enthusiasm around the learning process, improving MIS systems of schools, developing teacher capacities, involving parents more in their childrens education, training local youth.
